From an appeal by the opposition Social Self-Defence Committee „KOR”:
KSS„KOR” and editors of „Robotnik” express full solidarity with the MKS and all striking workers, and admiration for their attitudes.[...]
All strikes proceed in an atmosphere of peace and seriousness. Workers show responsibility for the fate of this country. However, some strikers and members of Strike Committees are harassed by Security Service functionaries. It happens that their families are blackmailed, their apartments searched, they are under surveillance and sometimes they are even detained: they face threats and provocations. […] Those in power once again try to suppress the truth and independent civic initiatives with police methods. This goes to prove lack of responsibility for the fate of this country. Each time those in power still try to cheat, each time political police intervenes openly or under cover, negotiations should be discontinued.

Jerzy Kołodziejski (Gdańsk voivod):
The authorities were shocked by what was going on. Actually, after three days the whole city of Gdańsk and the whole voivodship were on strike. We realised that the strike movement was getting increasingly organised, that this organisation of workers’ protest was also reflected by ideal peace and control over the situation in the city. We stated with regret - I must say this as a representative of the authorities - that we actually no longer ruled the voivodship. [...] The memory of December [1970] prevented us from making any hasty, unconsidered decisions.
